Bespoke Fine Art –
Crafted with Mastery and Meaning

Mark Ward is an Internationally Commissioned Portrait Artist, based in Scotland, who specialises in the creation of formal oil portraits for private collectors, professional figures and institutional settings.

His work is concerned not only with likeness, but focuses on the quieter aspects of presence — the balance between public identity and private character and where identity is suggested rather than declared.

Each portrait is developed through a considered process, often beginning with a directed photographic sitting, allowing light, pose and atmosphere to be carefully constructed before painting begins.

Working primarily in oil, Mark combines a structured classical approach with a contemporary sensitivity to surface, tone and space. The resulting paintings aim to hold both immediacy and permanence, functioning as lasting visual records rather than fleeting representations.

Commissions

Portrait commissions are undertaken for a range of contexts, including private homes, professional environments and heritage settings.

Each work is approached individually, with close attention to the sitter’s character, the intended setting of the portrait, and the overall compositional balance.

Mark accepts a limited number of commissions annually to ensure that each painting receives full focus and consideration.

Selected Work

Mark has been commissioned to paint a range of notable sitters, including British actor Tony Pitts, and has had the honour of presenting a portrait to Dame Judi Dench.
